Committee Role
The Planning Committee working in strategic partnership with The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) co-sponsors the public forum process. Members assist DVR in developing the Federal State Plan draft. The draft is then taken via the public forum to the public for review and comments. Once the draft has been reviewed, the State Plan Task Force, which is housed within the Planning committee, and comprised of the members of the Executive Committee, will hold a workshop to draft comments and recommendations on the plan. When the plan has been drafted, the committee works with the full council and the Director of DVR on finalizing the plan which will be submitted to The Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA). Additionally, the committee takes the lead role in reviewing the DVR 5-Year Strategic Plan to assure both the State Plan and Strategic Plan are in line with one another.
A new and exciting venture was added to the Public Forum in the form of a Service Fair. The partners of DVR were invited to set up booths and provide presentations on what services they have available to those attending the forums. The University of South Florida’s Rehab Engineering, School to Work Transitions, Independent Living and others were there to explain their programs and provide literature. This new venture was well received by those in attendance, and comments were made that never had they been provided with this much information. Because the Service Fair was such a positive event, future plans include inviting providers as well. DVR and FRC also had information to present to the attendees and to answer any questions that were asked.
Eleven specific Forums were held around the state to gather public comments on the changes in the policies of DVR. The forum featured a “Dialogue with the Director,” and a questions and answer session on the new policies of Financial Participation and the Order of Selection (OOS).
Members actively promoted the forums, participated as speakers on the agenda, and met directly with many of the attendees. The FRC Program Administrator facilitates the forums.
